4. Understanding EQAO
Wondering what the EQAO is all about? In Ontario, the goal of the EQAO testing is to check the quality of education in the public system and whether or not Grade 3 students have reached a standardized level in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
According to an EQAO report from November 2023, students are tested in their knowledge of the following concepts as related to the Ontario curriculum strands: Number, Algebra, Data, Spatial Sense, and Financial Literacy.
They are tested in their knowledge and understanding, application, and thinking skills.

5. Scores
Parents and students may worry about failing their EQAO assessment. While the results of an EQAO assessment does not impact a student’s grades or ability to pass or fail, the results can help parents and teachers understand the strengths and weaknesses their child faces.
The test is actually an opportunity for awareness, intervention, growth and improvement! Teachers learn what they need to adjust in their curriculum and lesson planning and parents know what specific areas of support their children may need.
The testing might also be a great opportunity to learn if your son or daughter needs an Individual Education Plan - or to adjust it!
