1) Let Him Teach a Favourite Subject or Skill
Involve your husband by inviting him to help teach his favourite subject!

Every dad has something to offer — whether it’s math, history, art, woodworking, coding, or storytelling. Ask him what he enjoys and where he feels confident, then build in space for him to teach one subject a week or month.
If he’s not home during the day, have him lead evening science experiments or weekend project-based learning. It doesn't have to look like “school” to be educational.
2) Share the Vision and Celebrate the Wins
When dads bring their strengths — like planning or organizing — the whole homeschool runs more smoothly.

Many dads want to help but don’t know where to start. Sharing your big-picture goals (and your challenges!) opens the door to collaboration. Let him know what’s working, what isn’t, and where you need backup.
Involve him in family decisions about curriculum or schedule changes. You might be surprised how invested he becomes when he's part of the conversation.
Just as you might invite your husband to teach a favourite subject, involving him in decision-making allows him to use his strengths to support and improve your homeschool.
3) Let Him Be the Principal

Encourage your husband to take on the role of family “principal” — not in a strict or disciplinary sense, but as someone who encourages, affirms, and helps set the tone for learning at home.
Ask him to review progress with the kids at the end of the week or reward milestones. His involvement will remind your kids (and you) that this is a shared mission.
Getting your husband involved in homeschooling doesn’t have to mean a total shift in schedule or routine. Often, it starts with small, intentional steps like inviting him to teach a subject he enjoys, involving him in decisions, or simply asking for his support as the “principal” of your homeschool.
Every family looks different, and involvement can take many forms. The key is open communication, shared goals, and recognizing that you're in this together. When both parents bring their unique strengths to the table, homeschooling becomes not only more manageable but also more meaningful.
